5 ways to show appreciation for your staff and customers this EOFY

5 ways to show appreciation for your staff and customers this EOFY

The end of the financial year is typically a busy time for many businesses, as clients push you to get work completed, your boss wants the maximum amount of work invoiced, and budgets need to be spent before the Finance team takes it off you forever (we all know it's true - use it or lose it!)

The month of June marks many long evenings spent in the office as the last push is on to meet client deadlines, and make your company's FY17 results the most positive it can be. This means tired and frazzled team members, and sometimes tired and frazzled clients...

So here are five ways you can help buoy your employees, colleagues and clients this end-of-financial-year season:

  1. Surprise them with a cheese platter. Be the world's best boss or team member by having a cheese platter delivered to the office. Or a selection of slices, biscuits and cakes... or maybe even an antipasto platter. Even better when it comes with coffees as well!

  2. Provide delicious dinners in the office for those working late.  Fill your staff kitchen's fridge or freezer with a selection of our Aquila Home Selections pastas - these make a hearty dinner that can be simply heated in the microwave and eaten at work for those nights when you have to stay back. Think beef cheek ragu, creamy chicken penne, or wild mushroom risotto.

And for those office kitchens that have an oven, our pizzas are amazing - they are best cooked in the oven straight from the freezer, so no excuse not to have your freezer stocked!

  3. Hold an EOFY party in your office. Once the clock ticks over and the hard work is done, consider having a catered breakfast, lunch or dinner in your office to thank your team for their efforts. Keep it simple with breakfast or lunch platters, or take it up a notch with our most popular catering set menu: chicken skewers, lamb skewers, grilled market fish, steamed greens and broccolini, garden salad, cheese platters, and a selection of sweet slices.

  4. Hold an EOFY party at Aquila! We can cater for groups of 2 to 180, and can help you organise a lunch, a private dinner, or an evening cocktail party. This can be a great way to thank your team and your clients, and there's no room hire fee for groups over 20 on a weeknight.

  5. Give a voucher to say thanks. An Aquila voucher can be redeemed for dine-in or take-away meals, coffee, as a bar tab, or used for Aquila Home Selections take home meals. They can also be used multiple times until the value of the voucher is reached, making them a great 'thank you' to your team or valued clients.

And remember, when it all gets too much and you need a break - we have coffee, food (and a bar!) waiting for you :)

New cocktail menu!

Mango Weiss Bar Caipirinha

Our bar staff have been busy dreaming up lots of delicious combo's for our new cocktail menu! As well as all the standard cocktails you know and love - Aperol Spritz, Mojito, Margarita, Old Fashioned, Espresso Martini (with La Macelleria's Bailey's gelato!) - they have come up with some tempting new concoctions:

  • Lemon Meringue Martini
  • Adult's Only Milkshake (think dark chocolate liqueur, vodka, ice cream...)
  • Mango Weiss Bar Caipirinha (tastes exactly as it sounds...)
  • Michelin (features vodka infused with marshmallows and watermelon...)
  • Passionfruit Mojito (a fresh twist on the old classic...)
  • El Diablo (tequila, Chambord, lime, ginger beer...)
  • Tanqueray Cooler (gin with watermelon and lime...)

It's impossible to do them justice by trying to describe them in words... next time you're in, make sure you try one and let us know what you think!

From baby showers to corporate dinners

We love hosting functions at Aquila, and we also really love the variety of functions that are held here.

For example last Saturday morning Aquila became a flower-filled venue for a special girls' baby shower, complete with separate food and drinks tables, games, the most amazing chocolate mud cake, and loads of gorgeous flowers.

Then on Wednesday night we hosted a private sit-down dinner for The Super Fund Co., who invited members and guests to hear from Sydney-based investment specialist Michael Glennon.

If you're looking for a unique and flexible venue for your next event, get in contact with Bianca on events@aquila.net.au.

How to fake a dinner party

HOW TO FAKE A DINNER PARTY

JANUARY 31, 2017 BY GOURMAND & GOURMET

So, you were out with the girlfriends and ending up making a promise – one that has you cursing that fourth glass of wine and glaring into your ever-empty pantry. Yep, despite scratching your head at scrambled eggs and always flame-grilling the toasted sandwiches, you’ve managed to invite twenty guests to an all-out dinner party. Whoops.

If your kitchen’s stocked with more restaurant menus than actual provisions, we suggest quitting while you’re ahead (and still in possession of an intact kitchen) and faking it ‘til you don’t make it with a few helpful spots that will do the hard part for you. All you have to do is choose the wine!

AQUILA CAFFE BAR | CBD

Want a dinner party with some Italian flavour but even boiling spaghetti is beyond your kitchen abilities? Just gnocchi on Aquila’s door and ask them for help! With a few of their favourite pizzas and pastas available vacuum sealed and ready to heat up at home, no one will ever know you’re an impasta – your guests will all be too busy tucking into sand crab lasagne, wild mushroom risotto or a cheesy five cheese pizza! Pre-order from the menu before 3pm, or just stop by the venue and see what’s at the counter.

Valentine's Day 2017 - Gelato Actually

What are you doing this Valentine's Day?

Whether you are happily in a relationship, or happily single and want to hang out with your mates on Valentine's Day, Aquila and La Macelleria gelato have teamed up to give you the perfect present: Gelato Actually.

Based on one of our favourite movies - Love Actually - Gelato Actually is a day of gelato deliciousness! The La Macelleria mobile gelato van will be at Aquila from 10am on Valentine's Day serving their famous handmade gelato (including some special flavours for the big day); and then from 4pm we'll be serving gelato cocktails. Think espresso martini's with Baileys gelato, peach sorbet bellini's, and even some gin and tonic oyster shots with La Macelleria's lemon and lime granita.

And of course we'll have our full range of drinks and bar food available as well, in case you want to stay for dinner or just have a snack before heading elsewhere.

To reserve your spot on Valentine's night, please email hello@aquila.net.au.

And if you want a laugh... check out our interpretation of one of our favourite scenes from "Love Actually" :)

WE’VE FOUND A SPOT DISHING UP GELATO COCKTAILS AND BACON WRAPPED HALOUMI!

JANUARY 24, 2017 BY GOURMAND & GOURMET

Bacon wrapped haloumi, cheeseburger spring rolls, gelato cocktails and the occasional gnocchi night on the calendar – does it all sound too good to be true? Lucky for you, it’s all real, all delicious and all in one city venue: Aquila Caffe Bar.

If you’ve walked past the casual eatery at 82 Eagle Street during lunch or Friday after work drinks, you’ve probably seen plenty of city workers overflowing out from the tables inside to the breezy patio and wondered what brings them all there every day. Well we’re here to tell you it’s more than just their great toasted sandwiches and ice cold beers – much more.

What brings Aquila’s regulars back every day (some of them even more than once a day!), is everything from breakfast acai bowls and healthy lunch options to saucy pizzas and pastas, and scrumptious bar snacks, all of it dished up fast and friendly using fresh, local ingredients.

For us though, it was the gelato cocktails that first got our attention – who could pass up a post-work espresso martini made with La Macelleria Bailey’s gelato, or a mojito sorbet? And when we found out you can pair them with haloumi fingers wrapped in crispy bacon and cheeseburger spring rolls on a Friday night, our hearts (and stomachs) were sold.

If it’s more something to get you through the day you’re after, Aquila has you covered for breakfast, lunch and dinner – they even do office catering and dish up take home packs of their pizza and pasta! Start your morning off right with classic French toast or chorizo and haloumi scrambled eggs, and come back later for a lunch of their infamous lamb and grilled haloumi in pita bread, or maybe one of their superfood salads.

When dinner rolls round, take a date, take the work crew or just take yourself – deliciously traditional (and some not so traditional) Italian pizzas and pastas are waiting! Split a roast pumpkin pizza with mozzarella, feta, almonds, pesto, garlic and rocket, or order up a plate of beef cheek ragu and keep it all to yourself – along with a side of thick cut rosemary chips.

There’s plenty more to drool over on the menu, along with pop-up dinner events throughout the year, but we’re going to let you find those out for yourself – you know you want to! You’ll find Aquila at 82 Eagle Street, open Monday to Friday for breakfast and lunch, Thursday and Friday for dinner, and Saturday for breakfast.

Aquila Caffe Bar

Come Friday evening, Eagle Street turns into party central as hordes of inner-city workers unchain themselves from their desks for knock-off hour. One popular destination on the Eagle Street strip is Aquila Caffe Bar – a haunt known for offering delicious food, smooth coffee, tasty drinks and friendly service. Aquila’s menu offers dishes that you could easily eat every day from breakfast bites (acai bowls, eggs bennie and French toast) to lunch (pizza, pasta, salt and pepper calamari, veal meatballs) and onward to bar snacks (bacon-wrapped haloumi). For that post-5:00 pm tipple, Aquila’s bar serves everything you could want to unwind, including a extensive list of wines, spirits, cocktails, tap beers and bottled varieties. If we could make one recommendation, it would be to try the espresso martini made with Bailey’s gelato from La Macelleria – it won’t disappoint.

A huge thankyou to the entire team at Aquila- our wedding day was absolutely PERFECT! The venue could not have done any more to ensure our wedding day was everything we wanted it to be – they worked with us to create a custom menu, sourced extra furniture, had regular meetings with us and liaised with our suppliers to ensure everything would run smoothly on the day. Our guests had a wonderful time and everyone raved about the food – it was exceptional. Thanks team Aquila!!!

Cheese, gelato, and la dolce vita

Cheese, gelato, and la dolce vita

Our inaugural Italian Feast with the Artisans was a sold-out success! Alessandro Motta from Casa Motta set up a cheese-making station in the restaurant, and made fresh mozzarella, burrata and strachino cheese for guests - it's impossible to have cheese any fresher!

The cheese was the star of the savoury courses, fresh from Alessandro served with antipasto, or weaved into an array of delectable bites including tartlets, arancini, zucchini flowers, gnocchi, and off course - pizza!

Matteo from La Macelleria took over for dessert, parking his mobile gelato cart inside and serving a range of homemade gelato including:

  • Nocciola
  • Cioccolato
  • Crema Bolgna
  • Tiramisu (made with Casa Motta mascarpone)
  • Ricotta & Fig (made with Casa Motta ricotta)
  • And a very special Champagne Sorbet!

It was such a great night, we are thinking about making this a regular dinner - let one of the team know if you're interested! And check out our live videos from the night on our Facebook page.
